It is tough working in today’s environment. It is tough being a Mum. Working Mums need all the help you can get!
Five key steps to achieving career fulfillment whilst maintaining balance for yourself and your family:
1. Rediscover yourself
It is important to take a step back and consider what is important to you, especially if you feel as if you have been swamped by the responsibilities of looking after children and the real you has been slightly lost. Remember what used to motivate you and gave you satisfaction before you had kids.
Take time to reflect on the career you are in. Is it still the right one? If you have you thought about taking a different career path or even starting a business, It is extremely liberating to go through a structured decision making process so that you know which direction is best for you at this time in your life. Imagine your 60th birthday party, what would you like to have achieved by then and what would you like people to say about you?
3. Make a positive transition into work after maternity leave
To ensure that your return to work is a positive experience for both you and your employer it is essential you work closely with them prior to your maternity leave so that expectations can be managed. Stay in contact regularly throughout your leave, as agreed by both parties beforehand and when you return communicate your career plan carefully. Find a supportive coach or mentor to help boost your confidence and clarify your career plan.
4. Make the most of your chosen career
Clarify your career goals and communicate them effectively to the relevant stakeholders in your organisation. Focus your time and energy on the tasks which are most important to the organisation and will move you towards your career goals fastest. Build relationships with the key people and get well known in a particular area.
It is important that you are clear on your priorities and your goals for your career, your family life and yourself as an individual. Cut out any tasks which are not contributing to these goals. Focus on one thing at a time where possible (you didn’t misread this!) and have times when you are completely away from email, phones and other intrusive gadgets (addiction is becoming more prevalent!). Create systems and get organised, at home and at work.
What people say about us
If you would like to see what other people have experienced and said about their results, take a look at their “kind words“:
“I am fitter, happier, more focussed, more organised and having more fun!”
“…she has helped me remember what I enjoy doing and what makes me feel whole, which is an almost instant recipe for feeling better and as a result she has given my boys their mummy back, sane and with more vroom!”
“I have more confidence, I am aiming much higher than I ever thought possible…”
“The skill of goal-setting is life-transforming. It’s not exaggerating to say I now think of things in new, more positive ways.”
