Success Stories
Before coaching, I'd just left a 17-year career because of the stress of juggling it with my school-age children. I'd been depressed, I felt a bit of a failure and couldn't see what I wanted to do next. I found Anna's website in a rather roundabout way, but the name Balanced Mum really spoke to me - as that is what I would like to become! So I e-mailed Anna to see if she was the kind of person I could get on with and who would help. I was nervous of the idea of coaching because I feared it would be too "woolly" and not very practical. From the first session I realised that Anna was not like this. She seems to have an uncanny instinct for knowing when you need to sort something out just by talking it through and when you need a little extra push or direction.
Shortly into the sessions, I'd set goals that had fast and amazing results - thanks to Anna's encouragement, I started entering writing competitions and have been highly placed in three so far. I now have other goals that are helping me on my chosen career path. When I decided to start a website with a view to a new small business, Anna had hands-on advice for this too.
Now I've come to the end of the sessions - although I may go back for more! - I've learned clear, practical ways of dealing with problems. The skill of goal-setting is life-transforming. It's not exaggerating to say I now think of things in new, more positive ways. Anna is wise on every aspect of life, no matter how big or small. Barbara, Nov 09

Quote of the Week
“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score. Bill Copeland ”
Thought for the Week
Set a goal not a New Year's resolution
Don't set a New Year's resolution. Many people set the same one every year and often don't last beyond the first week. "I want to give up smoking" is unlikely to yield results as it doesn't have any emotional attachment. Instead try this:
Set a goal. You need a real goal, or a vision to motivate you - to keep you alive and to make sure you have something on which to hang your plan. For the smoker, something along the lines of "healthy enough to run around with my kids without getting out of breath" has an image, emotion and a reason behind it. It is more likely to succeed. Make your goal what you really want not what you think you should do. Write it in the present tense as though you have achieved it. It should make you excited but a bit scared too.
